Vital Update: IVES NX Launch & Training Info for Anyone Who Completes Death Certification/Registration


IVES NX Upgrade – Launch Details

The new upgrade of the Iowa Vital Events System (IVES), will be launched on January 1, 2021. This system provides access to the Electronic Death Registration System (EDRS). The original system was launched six years ago, on April 21, 2014. The EDRS has seen many improvements over the last six years and this new upgrade provides even more such as:

  • HTML5 technology which eliminates the need to download special software/prerequisites
  • Browser agnostic - allows the use of most internet browsers
  • User friendly home page – easier access to work queues
  • IVES-NX can be accessed using a variety of devices
  • Better data entry and error tracking

This upgrade is our way of matching the needs of our users with new technology to allow for continuous quality improvement of data entry and stay on track with our upward trend of improving timeliness. We expect our users to find the new upgrade easier to navigate.


What's Next?

The development and testing have progressed extremely well. We are ready to move to the next phase of our plan, training. Training of the newly upgraded site will be offered during late October and November. For your convenience six webinars have been scheduled.

In addition to the virtual trainings offered via webinar, training/demos for the new system will be available by pre-recorded webinars, updated user manuals and our newly updated version of "Reporting Cause of Deaths in Iowa" online course.

Lastly, during December, access will be granted to the TRAIN database to allow users hands-on practice. Users will be able to login to this special environment to experience the system firsthand. Note: This special access link will be disabled on December 21st.


Target Audience – Who should attend the training?

Funeral Directors, Medical Certifiers (DO, MD, PA, and ARNP), Medical Examiners and ME Investigators, and anyone who completes death certification/registration should consider attending one of the sessions or send a representative who delivers training for your team.

Each participant should register individually.
